What is cosmetic surgery?

Cosmetic surgery includes a variety of both surgical and other medical techniques designed to enhance your physical appearance. These techniques can be used to reconstruct normal appearance, correct undesirable features, enhance features and overall appearance.

Who should have cosmetic surgery?

Both men and women choose to have cosmetic surgery for a wide variety of reasons. Cosmetic surgery can be used to assist with weight loss or to improve the shape of your body, either assisting in managing total body weight or removing fat deposits from specific areas of the body. Many people choose to have cosmetic surgery after losing weight in order to remove excess skin that may result from previous weight issues, giving them a more toned appearance and completing their new slimmer look.

Cosmetic surgery can also be used to correct specific features that may be out of balance with the rest of your appearance. Area that are commonly targets for cosmetic surgery include larger noses, small chins or asymmetry in other parts of your body, such as the breasts. It is also common to have surgery to restore body shape after procedures such as mastectomy (breast removal) following medical problems.

Risks involved?

All surgery, whether cosmetic or medical, comes with a certain level of risk, both of side effects and more serious complications. Side effects of cosmetic surgery can include bruising, pain and swelling after the operation. This will almost invariably decrease gradually over the weeks after surgery, with recovery time depending on the procedure. Larger or more complex procedures may require you to stay in hospital overnight and to take time off work to recover. Some people may find they are tired after surgery and it may take a while to return to normal or strenuous activities. Very infrequently, the surgery may not be fully successful and the procedure may need to be repeated or altered to achieve the desired results.

Complications of surgery are rare, but can include infections, excessive bleeding or haematomas (blood clots) at the site of the surgery. As with any medical procedure, a small percentage of individuals may have an adverse reaction to the anaesthesia used during the operation.

Any such problems are absolutely minimised through our team’s expert surgical techniques and nursing care. Our team carefully address these risks and we have numerous safety measures in place to ensure that your surgery is a successful and safe experience and that it is as pleasant as possible. If you have any concerns or questions do not hesitate to ask your personal specialist cosmetic surgery nurse or surgeon for further information.

Common Procedures

Our team at are specially trained in a wide range of procedures. Here are a few of the most commonly performed:-

Breast enlargement

Also known as mammoplasty or colloquially as a “boob job”, this procedure enhances the size and shape of your breasts through the insertion of implants under the existing breast tissue. Breasts will appear larger and more symmetrical, giving you the feminine body shape you desire and the confidence to wear lower cut tops and swimwear.

Breast uplift

Medically known as mastopexy, this procedure is commonly used where breast tissue has stretched and the breasts are sagging. This commonly happens with age, after weight loss or through having children. The procedure works by removing the extra skin and lifting the breasts back to their original position, giving you a more prominent and pert shape.

Breast reduction

Termed a reduction mammoplasty, this procedure is used to reduce the size and reshape the breasts. Excess skin and tissue is removed and the nipples repositioned. It is commonly used in women with larger breasts who may suffer from back, neck or shoulder pain or other medical problems as a result of their size. Breast reduction surgery results in smaller, symmetrical breasts. Sports and other activities are often easier after this procedure and back and neck problems can be relieved.

Also known as lipoplasty, liposuction is used to remove fat from the body, often from “problem areas” that diet and exercise have failed to address. Common areas for liposuction include the abdomen, hips, buttocks, thighs, upper arms and neck. Results are long lasting because the fat is not replaced. Combined with a healthy diet and exercise, this procedure can rid you of your problem areas and give you a slimmer, more toned overall body shape.

Nose job

Medically termed a rhinoplasty, a nose job is a surgical procedure used to change the appearance of your nose. It can be used to reduce the size of the nose (reduction rhinoplasty), or to make it more prominent (augmentation rhinoplasty). For many people it is also used to alter the shape and smooth out a facial profile. A nose job can balance out facial features, making your profile more attractive and your face more symmetrical.
